Aguas Blancas

Surfers rejoice!

The absolutely gorgeous Aguas Blancas beach is the perfectly hidden stretch of soft golden sand just 10 mins drive from San Carlos. With its rolling high waves and even higher cliffs this make the perfect spot for early risers as the sun sets over the cliff late in the afternoon.

Due to its trickier access and a short hike down a steep hill followed by some steps you’ll find this spot far less crowded than other beaches across the island. This does however make it less accessible for wheelchairs and buggys. It is the perfect spot all summer long, even in peak season. Officially, Aguas Blancas is a nudist beach but it is very mixed with some opting for clothing and others not. You may even spot beach goers covered in a bright red mud. This is achieved by mixing the clay/dirt from the cliffs with a little water and when applied liberally to the skin it makes for a nutrient packed mud mask. Something the locals are a huge fan off.

Depending on when you visit, you may find there is a high tide and sadly no sand to sit on. Best to arrive early to check so that you can make alternative plans if not. Don’t let that put you off though, it really is a great spot for a relaxing day.
